L'any 1974, Unió de Pagesos es va fundar a la clandestinitat a Pontons, i es definia com un sindicat unitari, democràtic i independent, hereu de la Unió de Rabassaires.
Durant l'any 1976, el sindicat Unió de Pagesos, va celebrar la seva primera assemblea a Poblet i el seu primer Congrés a Espluga de Francolí. I l'any 1977, va ser legalitzat com a organització professional agrària.
