En setembre de 1976, l'empresa Silvestre Segarra, S.A., l'empresa més gran de calçat a Espanya, què comptava amb un total de 3500 treballadors, es va produir la suspensió de pagaments als seus treballadors i la confiscació d'aquesta per l'Estat. Els veïns de la Vall d'Uixó es manifestaren contra el tancament d'aquesta, i es va aprofitar l'ocasió per a reclamar millors condicions socials.
